Featured Critter

California Kingsnake

This California Kingsnake is available for adoption. Isn't he handsome? With proper care, he could live to be over twenty years old! Please note, you must be an adult (or 16 with parental supervision and consent) and have previous experience with reptiles in order to be considered as a potential adopter. Reptiles have many care requirements, so our reptile adoption policies are a bit more strict. To see other critters in need of homes, click the "Adoptable Critters" button above.

Upcoming Events

Annual Fundraiser

Mark your calendar for our upcoming annual fundraiser! It is going to be on Saturday, September 11th from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. It will be held in the empty lot, next to Church Brothers, at 88th and Hague (see map below). There will be many vendor booths as well as some fellow rescue groups in attendance. A DJ is coming to provide music, and we’ll be doing live animal presentations to help you learn more about some of the critters we’ve rescued. Snakehead Ed will be there from 11:00 to 12:00. He and Michelle will be doing a presentation which will include a 15 to 16 foot snake! It will be a fun-filled day, so don’t miss it! Click here for a printable flyer about the fundraiser. Please help us get the word out by sharing the flyer with those you know and posting it.

We will also be collecting donations of animal food at our fundraiser. With all the critters we care for, food is one of our biggest needs. We can use donations of rabbit, guinea pig, pellets for birds, hay, and even dog and cat food, as we do work with other rescues to help dogs and cats. We really appreciate any food you can donate!

Past Events

Brickyard 2010

A Critter's Chance had a booth in the Family Fun Tent at the Brickyard 400! We were able to meet a lot of people, show off our critters, and hand out educational literature. It was a really fun, productive day! For more pictures of this event, please click here.

Scales and Tails 2010

This year's Scales and Tails at the Indiana State Museum was a big success! Attendance was up 40% from 2009! A Critter's Chance presented an educational program at the event as well as talked with and educated the many people who stopped by our booth. The picture to the left is Precious the tortoise with Rainbow the amazon parrot. Both were rescues. Precious lives with Tracy, our Volunteer Captain of Rescue/Rehab, and Rainbow resides with Michelle, our President. Both made a big hit at the event! Many people stopped by to admire them!

Tour For Life 2010

We participated in the Tour For Life event at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control on April 23rd. There were many other rescues there, and we had the pleasure of visiting with Maxwell, the IACC mascot! Maxwell is shown here posing with IACC adoptable dog Rusty. A big thank you to IACC for inviting us back to this event!

2009 Christmas Gift & Hobby Show

For the second year in a row, we were asked by Indianapolis Animal Care and Control to share their booth at the Christmas Gift and Hobby Show! This show is always a lot of fun, and we really appreciate being asked to participate. We are happy to report we will also be attending next year! Kentuckiana Pug Rescue and Rescue Farm were also there. Michelle even got a chance to show off some of our adoptable animals to Santa! He said he hadn't been around many exotic animals before, so he enjoyed meeting them. I guess there aren't a lot of rabbits and reptiles at the North Pole! As you can see from the pictures, even Santa loves exotic animals!

We also had a couple animals find their forever homes! The guinea pig pictured was adopted previously (as we do not do on-site adoptions), and her new owners picked her up from the show. She is now living happily and being loved by her new family. The African Sulcatta Tortoise in the picture was brought to the show by Michelle. The plan was for our volunteer, Mary, to foster her. Well, Mary fell in love with her and decided to adopt her! Her name is now Sulky, and she is loving her new home!

There are many more good pictures to view from this event! Be sure to click here to see them all!

A Passion for Wildlife III, 2009 Fundraiser

A Critter's Chance would like to thank the many volunteers, sponsors, and donors who helped with our fundraiser. We would also like to thank those of you who attended the event. Without all of your support, we could not continue with our mission to help animals. As you can see, from the picture to the right, this year's fundraiser had a pirate theme! To view more photos of the fundraiser, please click here! To view the event book from our fundraiser, click here. The December issue of Indianapolis Woman also covered our event!

Dog Days

We had a booth at the Dog Day event in Carmel on September 13th. It was a very busy event, and we got a chance to talk with many people! For more pictures of this event, please click here.

New Babies

We've added a few new members to A Critter's Chance! We would like to congratulate our volunteer Mary on the birth of her granddaughter, Haley Auna! Haley was born August 27th at 9:58 PM. She weighed in at 8 pounds, and was 20 inches long. We would also like to congratulate our volunteer Erin on the birth of her son, Elliot Harvey. Elliot was born August 30th at 4:45 PM and weighed in at 7 pounds, 8 ounces. He was 20 inches long. We're sure these two will grow up to love animals!

Check us out on Pet Pals TV!!

Click here to see us on an episode of Pet Pals TV! There are a few stories before us, so please be patient and keep watching. We are in the third segment promoting the IVEC event we'll be attending on July 11th.

Kokomo Expo

These are some pictures from an event in Kokomo. The little girl shown is picking up her new pet guinea pig. Her family was pre-approved for adoption and was able to pick their new pet up at this event! For more pictures of this event, please click here.

Scales and Tails 2009

We really enjoyed the Scales and Tails event at the Indiana State Museum! Here are a few pictures of the educational program we presented during the event. For more pictures of this event, please click here.

IVEC Event

It was rainy, but the IVEC event turned out to be a lot of fun! We had quite a few critters with us, including a bearded dragon that hung out with Michelle and a rat that attempted to run down the shirt of one of our volunteers!

Tour For Life 2009

The Tour For Life event was held at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control on April 19th. We had a booth with educational handouts as well as two rabbits, two hamsters, and three gerbils who were hoping to find their forever homes. While we don't do onsite adoptions, we did receive some calls after the event from people interested in adopting.

One of the happy stories of the day came when one of our volunteers decided to adopt a beautiful cat from Indianapolis Animal Care and Control! As if helping us staff our booth wasn't enough, she saved a life that day too! Thanks, Sandy!! We know this cat will be pampered and happy for the rest of her life!

All in all, we had a great day, met many people, and hopefully provided helpful info on wildlife and exotic animals. Many thanks to Indianapolis Animal Care and Control for inviting us to be a part of this event!

2008 Fundraiser, A Passion for Wildlife II

Our 2008 fundraiser, A Passion for Wildlife II, was held on October 11th. It was a lot of fun and very successful! A very special thank you to Ms. Rachel M. Simon for hosting this event! We would also like to thank everyone who worked hard, donated items, and attended. If you would like to see the program book, click here. The book contains many interesting rescue stories, letters from some of the board members, and a listing of the donors and sponsors who made this possible.

The turtle pictured here was part of an educational program done by our President, Michelle and our Vice President, Amy during the fundraiser. The program was newly added this year and was a big hit! If you're interested in seeing photos from the event, please click here . Photos were taken by Shelle Saylor.

A few more photos, taken by one of our volunteers, can be found here.

Tour For Life 2008

The Tour for Life event took place in the spring of 2008 at Indianapolis Animal Care and Control. It was really an adoption event, but we took the opportunity to educate as well. We had a wealth of information at our table, including numerous handouts on the care of orphaned and injured wildlife. We were able to pass out our brochures and cards to many people, so they could contact us in the event they found wildlife in need of assistance.

We also had animals there for adoption. They were getting a lot of attention because most of the other booths had dogs and cats. We were unique with our rabbits, hamsters, and guinea pigs! This dog took a real interest in one of our rabbits. I'm not sure the rabbit was very interested in him though!

There were a lot of good groups at this event. We were able to talk to many people and even recruited a few new volunteers! All in all, it was a successful day.

Our First Fundraiser

These are some pictures from our very first fundraiser. It was held at Southeastway Park. Michelle and Amy do educational programs there, so we were able to get the shelter free!

This was a smaller event than our last couple of fundraisers, but it was a lot of fun. It also helped raised some much needed funds for the animals we rescue.
